Final Stats
SAN MARCOS, Texas -
The Nicholls State University softball team broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh on a RBI single by senior Natalie Travasos and held on for the 1-0 victory over Texas State on Sunday at Bobcat Field.
The Colonels (20-11, 12-6 Southland) registered three hits in the game to the Bobcats (21-16, 16-5 Southland) five, while each team was errorless in the field.
In the top of the seventh, Nicholls rallied with two outs as senior Audrey Wood got a key walk, and would advance two bases on a wild pitch that ultimately led to Travasos' RBI single.
The dramatics were in full effect in the bottom half as Texas State looked to duplicate Nicholls' two-out rally with one if their own as Alyce Rother hit a double, but was left stranded after Sammy Carnline hit a game ending groundout to senior Lyndsay Mesh at shortstop.
Leading the Colonels to victory in the circle was junior Carlee Winkelmann as she only allowed five hits in the shutout. It was her first career shutout as a Colonel.
Registering hits in the game for Nicholls were Travasos, sophomore Megan Gaspard and freshman Lauren Batiz.
Nicholls will be back in action this Wednesday when the host nationally ranked LSU in the Colonel Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
