THIBODAUX, La. - Senior Lacey Gros limited UTSA to just one hit and fanned 11 on Sunday afternoon at the Colonel Softball Complex as the Nicholls State University softball team shutout the Roadrunners, 6-0.

The Colonels (21-14, 13-8 Southland) and Roadrunners (18-26, 12-12 Southland) were knotted in a scoreless affair until the bottom of the second when true freshman Ashton Bennett hit a two-run homerun over the left center field fence to give Nicholls the 2-0 advantage.

Nicholls followed that with a four-run fourth inning, that also saw some more RBI action from Bennett as she hit a two RBI single to cap off the inning. The first two runs in the inning came via a two RBI single up the middle by senior Natalie Travasos.

Leading the Colonels at the plate in the game was Bennett with a career day that included a 2-for-3 showing, a homerun, four RBI and a run scored. The homerun was the first of her career.

Also recording multiple hits in the win was Travasos with a 2-for-3 performance that included two RBI and two runs scored.

"The difference was that we hit the ball hard today, and made some adjustments," said Head Coach Jenny Parsons. "I have to give a lot of credit to Lacey in the way she pitched today. To limit a team like UTSA to one hit is rare."

Gros improved to 11-5 with the win, and now stands with 127 strikeouts on the season. She also boasts a team best .193 opponent batting average. The Schriever, La. native also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and a stolen base.

Nicholls will be back in action at Southern Miss on Wednesday before heading to Northwestern State next weekend for a league series. First pitch at Southern Miss is set for 6 p.m.
