NEW ORLEANS - The Colonels notched eight hits and manufactured three runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome a fast start by the Green Wave as the Nicholls State University baseball team (14-14) fell to Tulane (20-10) by a final of 8-3 on Tuesday night at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

Nicholls was led by Keith Kulbeth, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Adam Miley, who extended his hitting streak to seven games by going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

However, a red-hot Tulane lineup pounded out 13 hits against seven Colonel pitchers to stay out in front of Nicholls all night. The Green Wave wasted no time getting started by jumping out to an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by Brandt Boudreaux.

However, the Colonels answered in the top of the second as Keith Kulbeth led off with a double and Blake Bergeron was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with no one out. A sacrifice bunt by Brady Bourque was followed by a an RBI groundout by Kevin Schlegel to tie it at 1-1. However, the Green Wave answered with a four-run second and another run in the third to take a 6-1 lead.

Nicholls tried to mount a rally in the fourth by manufacturing another run. Adam Miley tripled to center and came home on an RBI groundout by Kulbeth to cut into Tulane's lead and make it 6-2.

The Green Wave added another run in the bottom of the fifth as Rob Segedin's fly ball to left drifted over the fence to make it 7-2.

After being held off the board from the fifth through the seventh, Nicholls rallied once again in the eighth as Kulbeth scored on an RBI groundout by Miley to make it 7-3. But, in what would prove to be the theme for the night, Tulane answered once again with one in the bottom of the eighth for the 8-3 win.

The Colonels will return to action on Friday when they return to Nicholls for a three-game Southland Conference series against the Northwestern State Demons.
