Final Stats

LORMAN, Miss. - The Nicholls State University men's and women's tennis teams defeated Alcorn State in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon with the men emerging 5-2 and the women prevailing 7-0.

The men's team (13-4) used the win to close in on the best season's overall record in school history, while the women's team (11-8) assured themselves a winning season, and a third consecutive campaign with a .500 record or better.

In the men's match, Nicholls used the doubles point and four wins in singles to get the 5-2 win. Getting wins in singles play were junior Radu Ionescu, senior Phenyo Matong, and freshmen Roy Knight and Dmitry Kozionov.

The women blanked the Lady Braves, putting forth the club's fifth shutout and second over Alcorn State this season. The Colonels won all doubles matches and dominated in singles with all matches being decided in two sets.

The men will not play again until Wednesday April 16 when they travel to Texas-Arlington, while the women will close out their season this weekend with a trip to UTSA on Saturday and Incarnate Wood on Sunday.
