FRISCO, Texas - Senior utility player Audrey Wood was named All-Southland First Team, while sophomore third baseman Kayla Watterson, senior pitcher Lacey Gros and sophomore outfielder Megan Gaspard garnered Third Team recognition, announced the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Wood picks up her first ever First Team selection, and was also named to the CoSIDA District 6 All-Academic Team this season. The Lawton, Okla. native leads the team in homeruns (9), RBI (29), and slugging percentage (.593) while also ranking second in batting average (.304). She also is second on the squad in the pitching department with a 3.40 ERA and a 6-6 record.
Watterson garners her first ever All-Southland selection, and finished the season with a .306 batting average overall. The New Iberia, La. native led the team in doubles with 12, and stands seven away from tying the regular season record of 19 set by former Colonel and current coach Leah Peterson.
Gros was Nicholls' ace in the circle for the second consecutive season, leading the team in ERA (2.66), wins (13), saves (3), shutouts (2), strikeouts (155) and opponent batting average (.202). The Schriever, La. native led the conference in opponent batting average, while her ERA and strikeouts were fifth.
Gaspard led the team in batting average (.310), stolen bases (16), hits (49) and at bats (158). The Coteau, La. native was also second on the squad with 24 runs scored and a .351 on-base percentage.
"I'm very proud of Audrey, Kayla, Lacey, and Megan for being recognized by the conference," said Head Coach Jenny Parsons. "They all have worked hard individually to be the best they can be, battling through adversity. We are all happy for them."
