The Colonels head to Waco, Texas for the NCAA South Central Region cross country meet this weekend
THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's cross country team heads to Waco, Texas this weekend to participate in the 2011 NCAA South Central Region Cross Country meet hosted by Baylor University.
The Colonels are coming off an eighth place finish in the conference meet two weeks ago, as
Ingvild Vedde and
Jessica McLeod were the top two finishers for the Colonels as Vedde finished 28th and McLeod 29th.
The top two teams from each of the nine regions will advance to the national meet, while 13 at-large bids will make up the 31-team field for the 2011 championships hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
Last year the Colonels finished 14th overall, paced by top 50 performances by McLeod and
Lauren Jones. The Colonels finished fifth among six conference schools at the meet and was 30 points away from a top-ten regional finish.
The race will be held at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, with the men's 10K beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the start of the women's 6K event at 11:15 a.m. Timing and results will be provided by Delta Timing Group at www.deltatiming.com.
