Colonels Look to Rebound Against No. 75 Akron

THIBODAUX – After suffering their first home loss of the season on Wednesday against Cleveland State, the Nicholls State University women's tennis team will be looking to right the ship as they welcome another Ohio school, Akron University, to the Colonel Tennis Complex on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Nicholls (4-4) came into yesterday's matchup with a 2-0 record at home but would drop the match 4-3. Already down a match in the doubles round due to forfeit, the Colonels overcame the obstacle by taking the No.1 and No.2 matches to earn the point. Florina Nosca and Natalia Zamora, who both earned points in singles play, won at No. 1 8-6 and Sumana Kalyanasundaram/ Marina Ljoshevska took their match 8-5.

Nosca and Zamora continued to lead Nicholls in singles action, picking up 6-4, 7-5 and 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 victories, respectively. However, with the help of the forfeit in the No. 6 position, the Vikings were able to overcome the deficit as they won the No. 3-5 matches to give Nicholls its first non-conference loss of the season.

The Colonels welcome a nationally recognized squad in Akron, who come into the matchup ranked 75th in the country. However, in its first contest during their Louisiana road trip, the Zips (8-3) were blanked 7-0 by Tulane on Tuesday.

Akron features the nation's 27th-ranked duo, Angelina Jogasuria and Zara Harutyunyan. The duo helped lead the Zips to a fast start as Akron won its first six matches en route to cracking the national rankings.

First serve against No. 75 Akron on Friday is slated for 1:30 p.m.
