THIBODAUX – Fielding only four players, the Nicholls State University women's tennis team fell 7-0 to 75th-ranked Akron University on Friday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

Nicholls (4-5) has now dropped five consecutive contests after going undefeated in their first four matches of 2011. The Colonels will continue their busy weekend at the Colonel Tennis Complex with a Southland Conference match against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday before hosting Jackson State on Sunday.

In doubles play, Sumana Kalyanasundaram and Marina Ljoshevska were able to knock off the Zips in the No. 2 match, taking the contest 9-7. Akron (9-3) took the third match via forfeit and its highly touted duo, Angelina Jogasuria and Zara Harutyunyan, clinched the doubles point as Florina Nosca/ Tatiana Denezhkina were defeated in the No. 1 match, 8-4.

Leading 3-0 due to two forfeits in singles, Akron proved to be too much as the Zips took the four matches in straight sets. Nosca dropped the No. 1 match 6-2, 6-2 while Denezhkina was defeated 6-1, 6-1. Rounding out the action was Kalyanasundaram, who fell 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 3 slot, and Ljoshevska in the No. 4 position lost 6-4, 6-1.

First serve on Saturday at the Colonel Tennis Complex against the Lady Lions of Southeastern Louisiana is set for 1:30 p.m.
