Nicholls took one of three games versus UTSA last season
THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University softball team will attempt to break its season-long losing streak as the Colonels (9-30, 2-15 SLC) head to the University of Texas at San Antonio (22-23, 12-12 SLC) for a three-game Southland Conference series at Roadrunner Field. Friday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. with Saturday's single game scheduled for 12 p.m.
The Colonels, still searching for their first win in April, come into the series with a 10-game losing streak after falling in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday against No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette. Nicholls will also be looking to win its first SLC contest since shutting out Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, who are currently in second place, on March 19.

Ashley Ray continues to have a solid first year for Nicholls at the plate, hitting her ninth home run of the season this week, which ranks third in the SLC. Ray is hitting .315 with 29 RBIs while junior
Megan Gaspard leads the team with a .316 average. Freshman
Brittany Marcet paced the Colonels in their doubleheader on Tuesday with four hits.

Ashton Bennett's 3.13. Bennett recorded her 10th complete game of the season on Tuesday and has a team-best 50 strikeouts.
UTSA had its five-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night after falling 5-0 against No. 14 Baylor. The Roadrunners currently sit at fifth place in the SLC standings and post a 12-4 record at home.
UTSA brings the SLC's third highest team batting average (.277), led by Molly Fichtner who ranks fourth with a .368 average. She is tied for the conference lead in home runs with 10 and has 29 RBIs on the season.
The Roadrunner pitching staff has a collective 3.65 ERA, led by Emily Humpal with an 8-4 record in 15 starts. Humpal has tallied 78 strikeouts in 88.1 innings of work.
