His 1979 team finished third in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis National Championship. The Colonels went on a 46-0 run during 1978 and 1979 seasons. Raymond's 1980 team went 16-2 and finished second at the NCAA Championship that year.

Matthew Shelton is the first soccer player in Nicholls history to be inducted into the athletics hall of fame. Shelton was a four-year starter for the Colonels from 1985-88, and was the first soccer player to receive the Ray E. Didier Award.
Darrell Hebert was a member of the Colonel baseball team from 1971-74. Hebert earned regional all-conference honors in 1973 and 1974. During the 1974 season, Hebert hit .350 and was named to the all-conference team as well as being selected to the American Association of Baseball Coaches All-American team as a catcher.
An offensive lineman, Tommy Broom played football for the Colonels during the 1975-79 seasons. Broom was named to the Nicholls Team of the Decade (1971-81), as well as being named first team All-Louisiana in 1977 and second team All-Louisiana in 1979 by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association.
