The Nicholls women's cross country team won the McNeese Relays on Tuesday
LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Nicholls State University men's and women's cross country teams opened the regular season on Tuesday participating in the McNeese Relays and the team of
Tessni Carruthers and
Jackie White pushed the women's team to their second-straight relays title while the men's group of
Sebie O'Neill and
Kane Daigle finished 11
th.
The Colonel women won the event last season, as Carruthers, who was on the winning relay group last season, and White finished the 6K event in 23:04 minutes, as the team of
Sarah Pressley and
Emily Charlesworth finished fourth overall with a time of 23:43 to give Nicholls two teams in the top five.
O'Neill and Daigle was the only group on the men's side for the Colonels and finished in 20:47, just .05 seconds away from a top-ten finish.
The tandem of
Ashley Johnson and
Victoria Williams finished 13
th overall with a time of 27:35, while
Emily Carrere and newcomer
Maria Mondello finished in 31:08 for a 17
th place finish.
Both squads will be back in action on Sept. 14, running in the Ragin Cajun Invitational hosted by the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
