Nicholls Track Finishes Strong At LSU Twilight Meet

BATON ROUGE, La. –
The Nicholls State University women's track and field team looked to put a cap on a strong 2012-13 indoor season on Friday and did so at the LSU Twilight meet in Baton Rouge with three top-five performances in its final regular season meet of the season.

Jackie White had the highest finish of the day for Nicholls, earning second place in her first women's mile event of the season, finishing in five minutes, 11.41 seconds. White produced the second fastest time of the event running in the first heat, while Emily Charlesworth ran in the same heat and had the 11th best time overall in five minutes, 25.62 seconds.

After finishing the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles with the third best time among the ten qualifiers, Kryshell Rolle came in third place in the finals with her time of 8.78 seconds. Rolle was the second fastest runner among the collegians in the event as the winner of the race won unattached.

There was just one heat of the 3000-meter run on Friday at the Carl Maddox Field House, and Nicholls' Sarah Pressley finished fourth overall with her time of 11 minutes, 19.04 seconds.

Amalechi Eweni placed sixth in the women's triple jump, leaping 35 feet, ¼ inches, while Cymone Hamilton was the last Colonel to finish in the top ten on the evening, finishing tenth in the women's shot put with a throw of 37-10 ½, coming on her second throw of the competition.

Nicholls will now prepare for the 2013 Southland Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships that will take place next Friday at the Mosier Indoor Facility in Norman, Okla.
