THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University athletics department held its second annual Academic Gala on Monday night at the Bollinger Memorial Student Union Ballroom in Thibodaux, honoring student-athletes who have maintained GPA's of 3.0 or better over the last calendar year.
After more than 90 Colonel men's and women's athletes were honored at last year's function, the teams blew that number out of the water in 2012-13 as over 125 Nicholls student-athletes made the cut this year earning gold, silver and bronze medals for their efforts in the classroom.
Included in that list were ten who finished with perfect 4.0 marks after seven accomplished that feat at the last event. This year, Hayden Cardiff (Business Administration), Hilary Clark (Education), Kaylie Daniels (Nursing and Allied Health), Jordan Hanberry (Arts and Sciences), Evan Karatzas (Business Administration), Jenny Nash (Arts and Sciences), Adam Seal (University College), Cari Spain (Education), Kathryn Stock (University College) and Kristy Tatom (Nursing and Allied Health) were bestowed with gold medals for maintaining perfect marks, as Cardiff, Hanberry, Nash and Stock are now two-time winners after finishing with 4.0's last year.
Also being bestowed on the night were any conference and national awards won by the student-athletes, which included the Southland Conference Honor Roll and Academic All-Conference teams. A full list of the honorees is below:
