2013 Ole Miss Invitational Results

OXFORD, Miss. – Led by junior thrower Jaimee Springer's fourth javelin crown of the season, the Nicholls State University track and field team put together another strong outdoor meet in a season full of them with new school records and five top ten finishes at the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday.

Springer earned her fourth title in five meets on Saturday, not only claiming gold but setting a new facility and personal best record, while junior Jackie White earned two third place finishes to continue her stellar season setting a new school record in the 1500-meter run in the process, while Tessni Carruthers ran two personal best times in both the 800 and 1500-meter events.

After cracking the 45 meter barrier last weekend in Texas, Springer needed just her first throw to blow away the competition, winning the crown with a toss of 151 feet, nine inches (46.25 meters). That throw was her best of the season, and best of her career, surpassing what she did last weekend by over three feet. The mark also became new facility record which was set by Evelien Dekkers of Florida back in 2008 after she had a throw of 46.07 meters.

White continues to rewrite the record books in her junior season on the track and seems to get stronger in every race. In the 800-meter event the Florida native crossed the tape in two minutes, 10.64 seconds to cut over a second off of her personal best time set earlier this year, and followed that up with her school-record time of 4:31.88 in the 1500-meter event in which she already owned the record and bested the previous one by .46 seconds.

Carruthers shined brightest in the 1500-meter run, finishing fourth behind White with her time of 4:32.18, cutting over a 1:30 from her previous personal best set at the LSU Tiger Relays earlier this season and putting her second in the history books in the event. She finished 11th in the 800-meter run, but was still able to claim another personal best with a time of 2:14.55 placing her fourth all-time in the event at Nicholls.

Aja Scott was the final top ten finisher for Nicholls on the day, as she claimed fifth in the javelin throw with a toss of 131 feet, two inches. Ashley Johnson tied her personal best time in the 400-meter dash crossing the tape in 57.58 seconds, while Cymone Hamilton placed 17th in the women's shot put clearing 39 feet, 0.25 inches (11.89 meters) to move into fifth all-time at Nicholls.

The Colonels will be back in action next weekend, taking part in the Southeastern Louisiana Lion Invitational on Friday and the LSU Alumni Gold meet on Saturday.
