Carruthers’ Record, Springer’s Win Highlights Colonels Day At LSU

LSU Alumni Gold Results

BATON ROUGE, La. –
In an event highlighted with current Olympians and some of the best track and field athletes in the country, the Nicholls State University women's track team rose to the challenge at the LSU Alumni Gold meet led by Tessni Carruthers' new school record in the 1500-meter run and Jaimee Springer's fifth javelin title of the season and personal record.

One day removed from participating in the Southeastern Louisiana Lion Invitational, Springer would need to wait just one day after having her string of meet wins snapped in Hammond by turning around and having a personal best toss of 152 feet, 1 inch to claim gold by over four feet over Jena Hemann of Texas A&M. Not only does the junior earn her fifth title of the season, but has not finished lower than second in any meet so far this season.

Sitting second behind teammate Jackie White in the Southland Conference in the 1500-meter event for much of the season, Carruthers had the best race of her young career on Saturday, finishing third overall with her school-record time of four minutes, 29.92 seconds. White had just set the new school mark at the Ole Miss Invitational earlier this month and finished eighth in that same event with her time of 4:36.40, as Carruthers becomes the first Nicholls runner to have a sub-4:30 time. White earned another top ten finish after placing fifth in the 800-meter run event with a time of 2:10.97.

Kryshell Rolle placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles reaching the finish line in 1:02.96, only to turn around and place sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.33 seconds. Quadri Newson set a new PR in her 12th place finish in the 400-meter dash, crossing the tape in 57.97 seconds to move to fifth all-time in the event at Nicholls.

Aja Scott finished tenth in the javelin with her throw of 125-4, while Emily Charlesworth ran in an earlier run of the 1500-meters and placed 11th with a time of 4:58.55.

The Colonels will participate in one more meet before the Southland Conference Championships in May, in an event to be determined early next week.
