NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's track and field team participated in the Sketchers-SFA Alumni Invitational on Saturday and came away with an individual gold medal by
Jaimee Springer along with 13 individual top ten finishes on the day in returning to competition after a week off.
Springer showed no signs of rust with the rest and captured her third javelin title of the season in four meets with her winning toss of 147 feet, 11 inches, which was also earned the junior thrower a new personal best mark by four inches.
Aja Scott finished third with a toss of 131 feet and
Anna Foulds finished sixth with a throw of 113 feet, seven inches as it was the only event where the Colonels had multiple athletes finish in the top ten.
Hurdler
Kryshell Rolle was the only individual Nicholls athlete to claim multiple top three finishes on the day finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles 13.90 seconds, claiming third in the 400-meter event with a time of one minute, 02.07 seconds.
Tessni Carruthers earned a fourth place finish in the 1500-meter run, crossing the tape in 4:34.28, as
Jackie White finished fifth in that event in 4:38.20 and seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:18.12 with Carruthers finishing ninth in 2:19.68.
Emily Charlesworth finished eighth in the steeplechase, finishing in 13:01.26 in her first running of the event this season, as
Ashley Johnson claimed eighth in the 400-meter dash event with her time of 58.85 seconds.
Amalechi Eweni's leap of 35 feet, three inches was a new season best and was good enough for tenth in the triple jump, with
Cymone Hamilton finishing tenth in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, three inches in that event.
On the relay side, the Nicholls “A” group finished seventh in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:13.03, while the “B” relay team finished right behind in eighth in 4:17.02. Earlier on the day, the 4x100-meter relay group finished eighth in 50.27 seconds.
The Colonels will be back in action next week, taking part in the Mississippi Open hosted by the University of Mississippi in Oxford.
