Nicholls Athletics and KNSU to expand partnership which includes addition of shows and opportunities for student involvment
THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University Athletics and KNSU-FM jointly announce an expansion of their partnership for the coming athletics year.
KNSU 91.5 FM, Nicholls' student-run radio station, joined the Colonel Sports Radio Network, presented by your local Super Chevy Dealers, last year as the home for Colonel women's basketball.
While returning in that role in 2013-14, KNSU is set to add greatly to its sports programming. The station will air a new hour-long football pre-game show, Colonel Pre-Game Pass, on the day of all Nicholls home football games. KNSU will also broadcast approximately 15 select Colonel baseball games during the 2014 season. Additionally, the station plans a twice-weekly program, The Colonel Report, to discuss Nicholls Athletics with the hour-long program airing Mondays and Fridays at 7 p.m.
"I got my start in college radio and am a big proponent of it because of all the opportunities it provides," said
Mike Wagenheim, Nicholls Assistant Athletic Director for Communications. "This arrangement is going to open the door for any aspiring sports broadcaster to come to Nicholls and get a head start on their career, or for any student who is simply a sports fan and wants to get closer to the field."
Nicholls Athletics and KNSU are exploring other collaborative possibilities, as well.
KNSU's flagship sports program, Overtime, airs weekdays from 12-1 p.m.
Nicholls students will have the chance to learning sports broadcasting in a hands-on setting, gaining experience doing play-by-play, reporting and production for Nicholls Athletics events and potentially go on the road with the teams.
"I chose to attend Nicholls because of the opportunities that come with being at a smaller university," said KNSU Sports Director Michael Hotard. "I'm happy to be a part of the increased sports programming and hope it can provide future students with great opportunities, as well. We are making strides in the right direction and I'm looking forward to the upcoming year."
