The Colonels will make their 2014 debut on Wednesday night
THIBODAUX, La. – After playing its first two weeks on the road, the Nicholls State University softball team will make its 2014 home debut on Wednesday night as the Colonels take on Southern University at 6 p.m. at the Colonel Softball Complex.
Nicholls (3-7) and Southern (0-7) have already squared off two times this season, both matchups last weekend in the Lovelace Invitational, with the Colonels coming out on top. Nicholls picked up a 4-0 win on Saturday before defeating the Lady Jaguars in five innings, 9-1, on Sunday.
Senior catcher
Brittany Marcet continued her hot start with seven hits and seven RBIs last weekend. Marcet belted two home runs, including a grand slam, and hit safely in four of the five games. After two weeks, Marcet is batting .469 with 11 RBIs and leads the conference with 15 hits.
Danielle Phillips also had a solid weekend at the plate, recording six hits in the Colonels' five games. Phillips and Marcet had two doubles each, and Phillips added three runs.

Taylor Hastings notched her first career start, earning a victory over Southern in four innings of work. Freshman
Jackie Johnson also recorded her first career win in the Colonels' run-rule decision over the Lady Jaguars.
