Jackie Johnson tossed all six innings on Sunday at SFA
Final Stats NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Nicholls State University softball team fell 2-0 in Sunday's series finale at Stephen F. Austin, giving the Ladyjacks a sweep in the teams' opening conference series at SFA Softball Field.
Nicholls (8-18, 0-3) was held to three hits in the loss, all coming in the sixth and seventh innings. SFA (11-12, 3-0) scored both of its runs in the second, and Ladyjack starting pitcher Carlie Thomas took care of the rest.
Thomas (7-6) kept the Colonels hitless through five, allowing only
Brittany Marcet to reach base on a pair of walks. In the sixth,
Kayla Prater broke up the no-hitter, and
Taylor Terrio added a one-out single. But Nicholls could not bring home a run as Marcet struck out before
Colleen Levy grounded out to third.
In the seventh,
Haley Parkerson singled with one out, and
Morgan Wilson drew a walk with two down. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, but Thomas struck out pinch-hitter
Laura Neil for her sixth K of the game, giving SFA a shutout and a sweep.
Jackson Johnson (6-10) was tagged with the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits in six innings. Three of the hits came in the second, which led to both SFA runs.
Nicholls will hit the road on Wednesday for a matchup against No. 14 South Alabama. First pitch against the Lady Jaguars is scheduled for 5 p.m. A live audio stream will be available on geauxcolonels.com.
