Colonel Softball Set for Home Series against Southeastern Louisiana

THIBODAUX, La. – With less than a month remaining in the regular season, the Nicholls State University softball team will look to make a push for its first postseason berth since 2010 with a three-game home series against rival Southeastern Louisiana.
 
The series at the Colonel Softball Complex will start Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for 2 p.m., with Sunday's finale slated for 12 p.m. All three contests will have a live audio stream available on geauxcolonels.com.
 
Nicholls heads into its second-to-last home series with a 4-9 mark in the Southland, which puts the Colonels in ninth place of the 10 team eligible for postseason. Houston Baptist currently holds the sixth and final spot with a 7-8 record.
 
The Colonels (14-27) split their last conference series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and split their non-conference doubleheader against Jackson State. Nicholls rallied from a five-run deficit against JSU to win in extra innings, 6-5.
 
Although she saw her hitting streak come to an end at eight games, freshman Taylor Terrio still remains as one of the top hitters in the Southland with a .379 batting average. Terrio has had 15 multi-hit games this season, including a pair of four-hit outings. Danielle Phillips is batting .302 with 17 RBIs and heads into the series with a six-game hitting streak.
 
As a team, Nicholls is batting .261 while the opposition is at .275. Freshman Jackie Johnson heads the Colonel pitching staff with an 8-13 record, a 2.82 ERA and has held teams to a .230 batting average. Hannah Haydel has recorded three wins vs. 11 losses, and Morgan Skinner has picked up two wins recently, posting a 2-1 record.
 
Southeastern Louisiana (14-19, 6-9) heads to Thibodaux with a .259 team batting average, led by Katie Lacour (.375), who ranks ninth in hitting in the league right behind Terrio, and Amanda Livaudais (.409). Lacour had a big series against the Colonels last season, racking up six hits, two runs and an RBI as the Lady Lions took two of three.
 
In the circle, Southeastern has used four pitches and has a collective 4.19 ERA. Spencer Adkinson, Taylor Bishop and Tori Stamper all have four wins and Adkinson leads the squad with a 3.32 ERA.
 
Nicholls will have will have no mid-week games this week before making the trip to Lake Charles for a three-game set against McNeese State, starting Friday, April 18.
