The Colonels head into the postseason on a four-match winning streak

Women's Bracket THIBODAUX, La. – Making its first postseason appearance in 15 years, the No. 4 seed Nicholls State University women's tennis team will take on No. 5 seed Stephen F. Austin on Friday, April 25 at 11 a.m. in the opening round of the 2014 Southland Conference Women's Tennis Championship at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Despite having no seniors on the team, the Colonels put together their best season since the turn of the century, aided by their current four-match winning streak. Nicholls ended the regular season with an impressive 15-7 overall record and an 8-4 mark in conference.
Nicholls is led freshman standout
Stephanie Barnett, who was named second-team All-Southland on Wednesday. Barnett compiled a 15-5 record in singles this season and a 9-3 mark in conference, playing primarily at the No. 1 and 2 positions.
Alternating with Barnett in the top two spots in singles for the Colonels has been junior
Marie Aubert. Since arriving on campus, Aubert has been a consistent component in Nicholls' lineup, averaging nearly 15 wins per season. As a junior, Aubert went 14-7 in singles with an 8-4 record in conference.
Anchoring the bottom half of the singles lineup is sophomore
Isla Brock, who finished the season with a remarkable 17-2 record. Sixteen of Brock's matches came on the No. 5 court, leading her to being crowned No. 5 singles champion for the conference. Brock went 10-2 in Southland competition, with one loss coming in three sets at the No. 4 slot.
Rounding out the singles lineup are freshmen
Klara Skopac,
Emma Kranendonk and sophomore
Kateryna Nakonechna. Skopac played most of her matches at No. 4, going 10-10 with seven wins in conference. Kranendonk played at No. 6 with seven wins in conference as well and Nakonechna enters the postseason with back-to-back wins.
Stephen F. Austin claimed the No. 5 seed after finishing the year 10-10 and 7-5 in conference. The Ladyjacks ended the year dropping three of its last four, including a 5-2 loss to Nicholls on April 13.
SFA is led by Maleno Gordo and Valeria Terentyeva. Gordo played at No. 1 and 2, going 13-7 on the year and 8-4 in conference while Terentyeva had a team-best 15-4 overall mark and 9-2 record in the SLC.
