Seafood Extravaganza Raises $65,000 for Nicholls Athletics

THIBODAUX, La. – The 2014 Seafood Extravaganza presented by Rouses Markets proved to be the most attended and profitable addition in the event's 14 year history, as the sold out crowd packed the Bollinger Memorial Student Union Ballroom to help raise funds for student-athlete scholarships.

With over 400 attendees, the Colonel Athletic Association was able to raise $65,000 to help aid the Nichols athletics department in covering scholarship costs and other expenditures for the upcoming 2014-15 academic year.

"The Seafood Extravaganza is by far our biggest athletic fundraiser of the year," Brandon Ruttley, Associate AD for External Affairs said. "The great thing about this event is that our entire department pitches in to help out. It is a true team effort to put on an event of this magnitude and everyone contributes to our mission of providing the very best student athlete experience."

Perhaps the biggest assist of the evening came from local sponsor Rouses Markets, who provided the seafood for the event.

Rouses, which has helped coordinate other events for the athletic department, not only provided the food but also helped spread the word about the event around the Lafourche and Terrebonne Parish areas.

"We can't thank Rouses enough for their support of department over the last couple of years," Ruttley said. "This year we had to turn away over 40 people because we were sold out two weeks in advance. There is no secret that Rouses has taken our event to the next level and we are very happy to have them as our partners. "
