THIBODAUX, La. – Forty Colonel student-athletes officially became Nicholls State University alumni as they received their degrees at the 2019 spring commencement at David R. Stopher Gymnasium Saturday.

Each program had at least one graduate, with football boasting the most at 12. Softball saw five members earn their degrees and baseball had four current student-athletes and one former player. Fletcher Thompson, who was part of the 1989 conference championship team before going on to play professionally, returned 30 years later to finish his degree.

Cassidy Barrios was one of two Colonel women's basketball players to graduate. The Raceland native was a two-time Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year, earning the honor the last two years.  

For the women's tennis program, Stephanie Barnett received a Masters of Education - K-12 Leadership. She was the lone Colonel to receive a masters.

The rest of the graduates included three each from volleyball, soccer, and cheer; two each from men's golf, tennis, and track, and men's basketball's Daniel Regis.
