YOUNGSVILLE, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team committed five errors against Jacksonville State and it led to four unearned runs, which turned out to be the difference in a 6-2 loss Friday to kickoff the weekend in the Mardi Gras Mambo.
Nicholls (4-9) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to an RBI triple by
Kennedy Hebert, who later scored on a sacrifice fly. But that would be all the offense the rest of the way as JSU's Macy Bearden shut out the Colonels in a complete game.
Emily Danehower took the loss, allowing two earned on five hits in 4.1 innings of work.
Taryn Westbrook pitched 1.2 innings, giving up two unearned on no hits.Â
Nicholls had six hits against Bearden, led by two by Hebert.
Yasmeen Williams also had a hit in her first action of the season, doubling to lead off the second.
The first two Colonel errors where in the third that led to a 2-2 tie. The Gamecocks then took the lead in the fourth on an RBI groundout and a fielder's choice.Â
In the fifth, back-to-back errors led to another JSU run, then a run scored on a Westbrook wild pitch.
Riley Dunn singled with two down in the seventh before the Colonels fell in the opener.
