BATON ROUGE, La. - LSU's Ali Kilponen tossed a no-hitter and struck out 11 Colonels as the Nicholls State University softball team fell 12-0 in five innings to the No. 23 Tigers Wednesday night at Tiger Park.
Only two Colonels reached base as
Melise Gossen and
Jacey Meade each drew a walk. Gossen flied out in her other at bat, ending her hitting streak at 13 games.
LSU racked up 14 hits in the victory, scoring four in the first before breaking the game open with a seven-run second.
Brittney Turner took the loss for Nicholls (8-18) with 11 runs on 11 hits in 1.2 innings. Freshman
Paris Lehman allowed a lone run in 2.1 innings.
Taylor Pleasants and Ciara Briggs led LSU (21-10) with three hits each.
ON DECK
The Colonels begin Southland Conference play this weekend with a road series at UIW. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.
