Nicholls Softball run-ruled in finale against SLU

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team was limited to three hits by Southeastern and the Lady Lions scored six runs in the fifth to put the run-rule into play, as the Colonels fell in the finale, 10-1, in five innings Saturday afternoon at Swanner Field.

With the loss, Nicholls (10-28, 2-7 SLC) has dropped the last six against the Lady Lions -- all at home. The setback is also the sixth straight for the Colonels this season.

Brittney Turner (5-12) totaled 3.0 innings for the Colonels, allowing four earned runs on four hits. She left the game after the second and re-entered in the fifth to get the final three outs of the Lady Lions' big inning.

Nicholls totaled three hits with Samantha Gwiazda and Melise Gossen each doubling. Julia Kramer had the lone RBI on a base hit up the middle in the second that made the score 4-1.

SLU (29-12, 7-2 SLC) racked up 12 hits for the day. Madisen Blackford, Bailey Krolczyk, and Lexi Johnson each turned in multi-hit games, and Johnson drove in three on a homer in the fifth.

KK Ladner improved to 5-2 after throwing three shutout innings of relief.
