Claire Sisco and
Reagan Heflin each drove in three runs as the Nicholls State University softball team secured its second run-rule victory of the Trojan Invitational with a 12-4 win over Furman in five innings at the Troy Softball Complex on Saturday.
Nicholls (9-3) was scheduled to wrap up the weekend against Omaha but the game was canceled in the first inning due to weather.Â
With the win, the Colonels push their winning streak to six games as they head back to Thibodaux for their home debut on Wednesday, Feb. 26 against Southern Miss. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
Facing Furman (1-11), it took Nicholls an inning to get started as they plated four runs in the second. The offense produced two hits in the frame and took advantage of an error, two bases-loaded walks and a wild pitch to go up 4-0.
In the third,
Lilianna Robledo doubled and scored on a groundout before Sisco smashed a double for two more runs.
Furman cut into the lead in the fourth with three runs on three hits. But the Colonels got all three back in the bottom half with two coming on an opposite field Heflin home run.
Aubrey Delatte drove in the first run with a pinch-hit RBI single.
The Paladins took advantage of a wild pitch to make the count 10-4 in the fifth, but Nicholls countered with two runs to end the game early.
Kayleigh Lugowski singled to plate Sisco for an 11-4 advantage then with two down, Heflin sent a base hit up the middle for the game-winning run.
Ashley Little (2-1) picked up the win, allowing three runs on six hits and struck out four in 3.1 innings.
Sierra Ouellette tossed 1.2 innings with one run on two hits.Â
The offense finished with 12 hits, led by Heflin's 3-for-4 day. Sisco and
Erin Krause each had two hits including a triple by Krause.Â
