JACKSON, Miss. - The Nicholls State University softball team hit three home runs while
Sierra Ouellette tossed a one-hit shutout as the Colonels cruised to a 10-0 victory in six innings at Jackson State on Wednesday afternoon.
Ouellette struck out six in the complete game and allowed just an infield single in the opening frame. She had a stretch of nine consecutive retired batters before issuing four free passes late but still secured the shutout.Â
Nicholls took a 4-0 lead in the second after tallying two hits while taking advantage of two Jackson State errors.
Laylin Sturm drove in the first run on an RBI single before
Madison Moak made it 2-0 on a fielder's choice. The Colonels added two runs on an
Erin Krause sacrifice fly and an error.Â
The score remained 4-0 until the fifth when
Reagan Heflin blasted a three-run home run. The Colonels then went back-to-back in the sixth for the final three runs.
Ava Burkett hit a two-run shot for her first career homer and
Carmella Muccilli followed with her first career long ball to make the final.
Nicholls totaled eight hits in the win with eight different players tallying one each. Ten different Colonels also recorded a run.
UP NEXT
Nicholls will head to UIW for a three-game series in San Antonio. Friday's doubleheader on March 13 will begin at 3:00 p.m.
