FRISCO, Texas – The Nicholls State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee received the Southland Conference's SAAC Serves Award, as the conference office announced Wednesday its annual awards.
Nicholls SAAC participated Chackbay Elementary's Spring Fling for the fourth consecutive year. Nicholls SAAC has taken on more each year of their involvement since Spring 2023 when Chackbay Elementary Parent Teacher Committee, PTC, restarted their Spring Fling event and asked for Nicholls student-athletes to be involved.
Chackbay Elementary's Spring Fling is an event open to the public that features carnival style games and activities. Nicholls football, soccer, and track & field and cross country take on running specific sport stations, and other sports help with setup -- including helping with the tent committee which involved securing corporate and personal tents and having them all up to provide shade for attendees, running additional stations at the event with a large presence from basketball and cheer each year including Colonel Tillou, and helping with clean up with almost every sport having some involvement. One of the prizes the students are most excited about are the baseball tickets they can win at the Nicholls sport stations.
Approximately 100 student-athletes from Nicholls take on various parts of making the event possible each year. Soccer, track & field and cross country and women's basketball have almost 100 percent participation from their teams who are passionate about making this project a great experience for the students and community members who attend.
