Ken Berthelot begins his third year as associate athletics director for external affairs. In that role, Berthelot will oversee the Colonel Club, the fund-raising arm of the athletics department and Colonel broadcast properties, where he will serve as the play-by-play announcer for Nicholls football games. Berthelot brings an impressive background to Nicholls. He served as the voice of the Tulane Green Wave from 1986 to 2001. In addition to his background in college athletics and sports broadcasting, Berthelot has been the Director of Training for Dale Carnegie Training in New Orleans where he has worked as a trainer, consultant, and motivational speaker with numerous corporate entities throughout Louisiana and Mississippi. He also worked as the sports anchor for WVUE-TV in New Orleans from 1978 to 1985 before joining the Tulane staff where he was an assistant athletics director for broadcast properties and special assignments, including working with the alumni and booster clubs in the Louisiana and Mississippi areas. After graduating from Louisiana Tech University in 1970, Berthelot began his broadcasting career in Thibodaux at KTIB-AM-FM radio. In addition to doing the football radio broadcasts, Berthelot will serve as Executive Director of the Colonel Club, working with Colonel Club president Lester Bimah in fundraising and development. Berthelot was named the regional All-American Football Foundation[apos]s 2001 Lindsey Nelson Outstanding Sportscaster and the Louisiana Sportswriters[apos] and Sportscasters[apos] Association [quote]Best Play-by-Play Broadcaster[quote] in Louisiana in 1994, '95 and '96. Berthelot was also inducted into the St. Bernard Parish Hall of Fame in 2007. A native of St. Bernard Parish, Berthelot is married to the former Karen Fanguy of Houma. They are the parents of a daughter, Michelle, and two sons, Ken Jr. and his wife Alicia and Steve and his wife Ayreca, as well as two granddaughters, Alanna and Aubrey Berthelot.
