Troy Taylor

Troy Taylor is entering his first season as an assistant Track & Field/Cross Country coach for the Colonels. His primary responsibilities will include coaching the 400/800 event groups as well as assisting in all aspects of Cross Country. Taylor holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of North Texas (2016).

Before Nicholls, Taylor coached at Emory & Henry College for two seasons, as well as two seasons at American River College, a junior college in Sacramento, California where he coached multiple individual conference and state champions. Prior to his time at American River, Taylor was a volunteer assistant for two seasons at his alma mater. He helped coach his former cross country team to its second Conference USA title in five years in 2018 as he coached under his collegiate head coach, Stefanie Slekis and Kevin Williams. 

At UNT as a student-athlete, the Rhome, Texas native, was a multiple All-Conference USA and All-NCAA South-Central Region, honoree. He was the 2015 C-USA Indoor Track & Field Champion in the 3,000 meters and grabbed runner-up honors in the 1,500 meters at the 2013 Sun Belt Championships and the 2014 Conference USA Championships. Taylor was also named the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in cross country and led the Mean Green to the 2014 C-USA cross country title. He was also a three-time national qualifier, competing at the 2014 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships and the 2014 and 2015 NCAA Division I West Preliminary Round in the 1,500 meters.
