    Head Coach
Darion Brown was named the 14th head coach of the Nicholls State University men’s basketball program prior to the 2026-27 season.

A former assistant coach at Nicholls, Brown returns to Thibodaux following a successful two-year stint as head coach at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. After the Eagles won just eight games in the season prior to his arrival, Brown led his squad to back-to-back 20-win seasons.

In his first campaign at TAMUT, the Eagles were projected to finish 10th in the Red River Athletic Conference and went on to double their win total from eight league wins to 16. In his second season, the Eagles finished third in conference and earned a berth to the NAIA National Tournament, which was just the third-ever appearance for TAMUT.

Brown spent the 2023-24 season as an assistant at Jacksonville University, helping the Dolphins to a 16-win season which ended with an appearance in the semifinals of the ASUN Tournament. The postseason run was highlighted by an upset of No. 1 seed and regular season champion Eastern Kentucky in the quarterfinals.

In his two years at Nicholls under Austin Claunch, the Colonels had a winning record in both seasons which included a regular season Southland Conference championship in 2021-22. Led by SLC Player of the Year Ty Gordon, Nicholls finished 21-12 overall and 11-3 in conference to earn an outright league title. The Colonels went on to make the program's first-ever appearance in the NIT.

Nicholls followed with a 16-15 mark in 2022-23 and another 11 wins in the Southland to earn a bye in the SLC Tournament.

Brown joined the Colonels after a one year as the director of recruiting at South Alabama under former Nicholls head coach Richie Riley from 2020-21, where he managed the prospect database in addition to leading on-court skill workouts for the Jaguars.

Previously, he worked as a graduate assistant coach at Salem University for one season (2018-19), helping the staff with a variety of tasks including the creation of opponent scouting reports, on-court development drills and pre-game planning.

A native of Alexandria, La., Brown earned his Bachelor of Arts in business management from Our Lady of the Lake University in May 2018 before securing his Master of Business Administration in management from Salem University in May 2020.

While studying at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, Brown accumulated an impressive playing career as a four-year starter for the Saints, finishing with 1,116 total points, 551 assist, 270 rebounds and 189 steals en route to three NAIA National Tournament appearances and two All-RRAC Second Team selections.
