Following a national search, Nicholls State University Vice President of Athletics and Athletics Director Jonathan Terrell has named Dell Pride as the head coach for the Colonels; men’s and women’s tennis teams.

Dell brings a wealth of experience, a proven record of success, and the energy and leadership needed to elevate our men’s and women’s programs,” Terrell said. His knowledge of the game, commitment to student-athlete development, and passion for building a championship culture make him the perfect fit for our program. We are excited about the future of Nicholls Tennis under his leadership.”
Pride has a long tennis resume that features multiple coaching stints at the collegiate, high school, and professional level as he brings more than 30 years of experience and accolades with him. Pride spent the 2025 season coaching Cumberland University where he served as the head coach for men’s and women’s tennis while also being the Director of Racquet Sports and Intramural Games.
“I am truly humbled and grateful for the opportunity to lead the men’s and women’s tennis programs at Nicholls State University; To be part of the proud history of this university is a privilege, but to make history at this institution is the goal.” Pride said.

As Head Coach, my commitment is to build a culture centered on excellence on the court, in the classroom, and throughout the community. Our goal will be to maximize the potential of every student-athlete while developing teams that compete with passion, discipline, and pride.
Prior to Cumberland, he served as the Head Coach at Fisk University and was a staff member for the Vanderbilt Men’s Tennis Team under NCAA champion coach Ken Flach. He has coached numerous nationally and internationally ranked junior players, including a World No. 1 ITF junior and competitors in Grand Slam junior events such as the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open. Pride was named USTA Midwest Coach of the Year, recognizing his impact on tennis development across seven states.
A former collegiate and professional player, Pride competed for Tennessee State University before playing in USTA Pro Circuit events and pre-qualifier tournaments for major ATP events. His extensive career includes roles as a staff member for the ATP and WTA Tours and the US Open Grand Slam Tournament, as well as working as a racquet technician and hitting partner for professional players. Beyond coaching, he has led tennis programs for top resorts in San Diego and Newport, Rhode Island, and served as a regional representative for major tennis brands. A Nashville native with deep roots in the community, Pride holds a B.A. in Business Management from Tennessee State University and is dedicated to fostering both athletic and personal excellence in his players.
