THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls junior defensive back Jermaine Boggan was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his role in the Colonels' 35-0 victory over Southern Arkansas last Thursday August 31, 2006.

Boggan, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., intercepted two passes, scored a special teams touchdown on a failed punt attempt by the Muleriders, and recorded 0.5 tackles in Nicholls season home opener.

This is the first time Boggan has been voted SLC Defensive Player of the Week. Boggan received votes in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association pole as well.

The Colonels hit the road this week to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Game time Saturday is set for 12:30 p.m.
