Colonels end 14-game drought with 21-8 win against Jacksonville State

THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls State University snapped a 14-game losing streak with a 21-8 win over Jacksonville State. It was the first win under second-year head coach Darren Barbier.

The Colonels scored on their first drive when Terrell Lewis hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Brad Zeller with 12:05 left in the quarter. Nicholls' four-play drive was set up when JSU quarterback Montressa Kirby fumbled a pitch and Quincy Sorrell recovered for the Colonels at the Gamecock 29.

Nicholls had just one passing touchdown in 1995 but got its second of the game when Kip Rohner split the Gamecock defense for a 41-yard touchdown pass from Zeller.

A 20-yard punt rturn by Dominic Brown set up another short Colonel drive in the fourth quarter.

Rohner was named SFL Offensive Player of the Week. He caught three passes for 67 yards and a touchdown and also handled deep-snapping chores for the Colonels. Punter Quinn Guidry was named Special Teams Player of the Week. He averaged 39.3 yards per punt, including a 51-yarder. He also dropped two inside the Gamecock 25.Â
