Nicholls drops contest to No. 4 Troy State

TROY, Ala. - No. 4 Troy State took advantage of three first-half turnovers and rolled to a 37-7 win over Nicholls in the Southland Football League inaugural game.

Nicholls running back Nakia Lumar fumbled at the Colonel 26 on the second offensive series. Five plays later, Troy's Tony Donelson scored on an 11-yard run and the Trojans grabbed a 17-0 lead.

Colonel quarterback Brad Zeller was intercepted on the Colonels' next offensive play. This time, the Trojans settled for a 32-yard field goal for a 20-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

After halftime and trailing 27-0, the Colonels managed to generate some offense. Nicholls drove 82 yards to start the third quarter, capping the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run by Zeller for the lone Colonel TD of the game.
