Colonel Linebacker Garrick Spain To Play In 2009

THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls senior linebacker Garrick Spain is eligible and will compete for the Colonels in 2009, announced the Nicholls Athletics Department on Wednesday afternoon.

Spain, who sat out fall camp due to eligibility concerns, learned on Monday afternoon that his eligibility has been restored. He participated in his first fall practice yesterday in a limited role.

"Typically we re-evaluate all our student-athletes prior to the start of the season as a means of confirming their eligibility status. In Garrick's case, we discovered some courses that counted toward his major, which were previously over-looked. Determining eligibility can be a complicated process especially when student-athletes change majors, which is common among students," said Bobby Galinsky, Associate Athletics Director of Compliance.

The Franklin, La. native led the Colonels in total tackles in 2008 with 60 (36 solo), and was an All-Southland Conference selection in 2007 as a sophomore.
