THIBODAUX -
The Nicholls State University women's soccer team (6-5-1, 0-3-0 Southland Conference) entered Sunday afternoon's contest looking for their first conference win of the season, and their first league win since 2007.  However, the Colonels fell victim to a seven-minute stretch that saw the defending Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana Lions (8-2-3, 1-1-1 Southland Conference) score three goals en route to a final of 4-0 on Sunday.

Nicholls, missing two starters due to injury kept pace with the Lions for most of the match.  However, the Southeastern offense was able to put together three quick strikes in just under seven minutes midway through the first half to go up 3-0.  The Lions got on the board in the 12th minute before adding scoring strikes in the 18th and 19th minutes.

The Colonels and Lions were evenly matched for the most of the contest.  Southeastern did outshoot the Colonels  20-2, but the Nicholls defense forced 11 shots off target and redshirt junior goalkeeper Molly Mersereau made five saves on the day.  The Lions added one more goal in the final minute to provide the final margin.

Nicholls will return to action on Friday when they host Stephen F. Austin at 4 p.m. at the Nicholls soccer field
