Colonel Volleyball Heads to Jackson State for Non-Conference Finale

THIBODAUX - The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team (10-7) will conclude their 2010 non-conference schedule when the Colonels head to Jackson State (12-10) on Tuesday night.

The Colonels head into the matchup looking to return to the form that saw Nicholls tie the best start to a season in school history.  The Colonels went 8-3 through the first 11 matches of the season, but Nicholls has lost two straight heading into their matchup with the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Jackson State enters Tuesday night having racked up nine wins in their last ten contests.  The Tigers are currently in second place in the SWAC East Division and third overall.  Jackson State has claimed victories over UL-Monroe and the University of New Orleans, and the Tigers have nearly pulled off upsets of Southland Conference school Southeastern Louisiana (L, 3-2) and Southland power Central Arkansas (L, 3-1).

Tuesday's contest will be the final of a two-match series between the Tigers and Colonels.  Nicholls won the first matchup, claiming a 3-1 victory at the Ragin' Cajun Invitational on Sept. 4.

The Colonels will have one of the best defenses in the country on their side heading into the Tuesday night match.  Junior libero Danielle Daigle ranks ninth in the nation with a 5.64 dig/set average.  As a team, Nicholls ranks 33rd in the country, averaging 16.76 digs/set.

First serve between the Colonels and Tigers is set for 6:30 p.m. in Jackson.
