Colonel Soccer Looks for First Conference Win at McNeese State

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Nicholls State University women's soccer team (6-3-1, 0-1-0 Southland Conference) will look to get back on track and pick up their first win of the Southland Conference season when the Colonels visit McNeese State (3-7-1, 0-0-1 Southland) on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Cowgirl Field in Lake Charles.

The Colonels will look to rebound from a 3-0 defeat at Lamar on Friday night in the conference opener for both teams.  Nicholls enters the contest having already set a new single season school record with six wins.  After losing three of their last five matches, the Colonels will look to regain the form that saw them open the season with a 4-0-1 start, the best start in school history.

However, the Colonels will have their work cut out for them in the form of the Cowgirls.  McNeese opened the season with a 1-6-0 record through their first seven matches, but the Cowgirls have played well of late.  McNeese has gone 2-1-1 over their last four matches, including a 1-1 tie with defending:  Southland Conference Tournament champion and 2009 NCAA Tournament qualifier Southeastern Louisiana, a hard-fought 2-0 defeat at LSU and wins over Houston Baptist and UL-Monroe.

A win over the Cowgirls would give Nicholls their first Southland Conference victory since 2007.  Following their match at McNeese, the Colonels will return to Nicholls for the majority of the rest of the season.  After opening the season with 10 of their first 11 matches coming away from Thibodaux, the Colonels will play five of their final seven matches of the regular season at the Nicholls Soccer Field.

Nicholls will open a three-match homestand, their longest of the season on Oct. 10 against in-state rival Southeastern La.
