Box Score and Play-by-Play

THIBODAUX -
The Nicholls State University women's soccer team (6-10-1, 0-8-0 Southland Conference) found themselves in a hard-fought defensive battle with the Northwestern State University Demons (8-10-1, 3-4-1 Southland) on Friday afternoon as the Colonels and Demons combined for 33 fouls and three yellow cards.  However, in the end, the Demons came out on top as a Northwestern State score midway through the second half provided the Demons the 1-0 win.

The Colonel defense weathered the Demon attack for most of the afternoon as Nicholls limited Northwestern State to just four shots on goal and forced nine other Demon shots off target.

Nicholls had a pair of golden oppotunities with a pair of corner kicks in the 32nd minute of the first half.  Junior midfielder Sam Etherington served in the Colonels first opportunity, but sophomore defender Britni Crone's header was blocked by a Demon defender and out of bounds.  On the subsequent corner kick, the Northwestern State defense managed to clear the ball out of the box after posession changed several times in traffic.

Neither side could break through in the first half as the match stood at 0-0 after 45 minutes.  However, the Demons took advantage of their best opportunity of the match midway through the second half as Alexandria Jackson headed in a cross in the 24th minute of the second half.

Down 1-0, the Colonels tried to press forward, but the Demon defense stopped all nine Colonel shots to clinch the 1-0 win.

The Colonels will conclude the 2010 regular season on Sunday when Nicholls hosts Central Arkansas on Senior Day.  Prior to the contest, the Colonels will honor seniors Kaity Mattsson, Allison Flynn, Allison Mylius, Jasmine Elsayed and Gillian McCarter in their final caree match.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
