Colonels Set For Televised Bout With Northwestern State

THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University football team will travel to long-time rival Northwestern State on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Turpin Stadium, and the contest will be televised live by the SLC TV Network.

Television stations a part of the SLC TV Network in Nicholls' viewing market include KBTR-TV, Ch. 41 in Baton Rouge and WUPL-TV, Ch. 54 in New Orleans.

The Colonels (2-7, 1-4 Southland) lost 48-13 to No. 10 Stephen F. Austin last Saturday, while the Demons (5-4, 4-1 Southland) rattled off their fourth consecutive victory, defeating Southeastern La., 35-16.

“It is key for us to have a positive start to have success this Saturday against a very talented football team. We have played toe-to-toe with some very good teams this season, but it is important to have a positive start in the game to gain much needed confidence,” said head football coach Charlie Stubbs.

Nicholls enters the game ranking sixth in net punting with an average of 37.74 under the guidance of senior punter Patrick Dolan. Dolan enters the game fifth in the nation in punt average (43.1 yards/punt), and has guided the Colonels to a Top-10 finish nationally in net punting in his previous two seasons as a starter.

Northwestern State counters with the league's No. 1 rated pass defense, yielding 212.56 yards/game through the air. The Demons are led by Derek Rose on the defensive side of the ball, accounting for 111 total tackles (74 solo), nearly doubling his next closest teammate.

“Our team goal is to finish strong on a positive note. We have had our ups and downs this season, but I know that the valuable experience we have gained will be beneficial in the future as we build this program to the championship level,” added Stubbs.

The game will also mark the two teams' 38th meeting between the lines with Nicholls prevailing five of the last seven meetings including last season's 28-21 victory in John L. Guidry Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Turpin Stadium.

Little Dolan Living Up To Family Name
True freshman kicker Andrew Dolan is going to have a big-time “Dolan” legacy to live up to, and may have started that process against Stephen F. Austin. Dolan banged two field goals through the uprights (32, 48) to have his first game of multiple field goals made.

Lennix Making Most Of Playing Time
