Alisha Allen had a double-double in the Colonels' first game of the season on Friday
THIBODAUX - The Nicholls State University women's basketball team (1-0) will look for their first 2-0 start in eight seasons when the Colonels look for their second straight win by hosting Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
Nicholls is coming off a 74-59 win over Southern-New Orleans in last Friday's season opener. The Colonels had four scorers in double digits, led by senior
Ricshanda Bickham's 17 points. Freshman
KK Babin added 16 and her classmate
LiAnn McCarthy turned in 15 along with sophomore
Alisha Allen as Nicholls cruised past the preseason Gulf Coast Athletic Conference favorites.
However, the Colonels will face a stiff challenge in their quest for their first 2-0 start since wins over Louisiana-Lafayette and the University of New Orleans opened the 2002-03 season.
Louisiana-Monroe enters Tuesday night's game fresh off a 97-30 win over UNO. Five different Warhawks recorded double digits in points led by 15 points from Sannisha Williams.
Tuesday's contest marks the finale of a season-opening two-game homestand for the Colonels. Following the match up with the Warhawks, the Colonels hit the road to visit Ole Miss (Nov. 20), Stony Brook (Nov. 24), and St. John's (Nov. 26) before returning home to host LSU on Nov. 30.
Tipoff for Tuesday night's game is set for 6:30 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
