Colonels Rally Past Warhawks at the Buzzer

Box Score and Play-by-Play

THIBODAUX -
Down by six with under four minutes left, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team put together a 7-0 run.  Alisha Allen's floater in the lane with two seconds left put the Colonels up for good as Nicholls earned a 53-52 win over the University of Louisiana-Monroe (1-1) for Nicholls' first 2-0 start since 2002.

Three different Colonels scored in double figures.  Freshman KK Babin led the Colonels with 15 points on 6-for-14 shooting (including 3-for-6 shooting from three point range). Allen added 13 points, and Ricshanda Bickham added 12 as the Colonels closed out their season-opening two-game homestand undefeated.

The Colonels claimed a six-point lead at the half by holding ULM to 26.7 percent shooting in the first half.  However, after Nicholls took a 27-21 lead at halftime, the Warhawks came out strong in the second, opening the half with a 13-2 run.  ULM increased their lead to six at the 4:36 mark, going up 52-46.

However, the Colonels put together a furious 7-0 run in the final four minutes.  Allen and Bickham each went 1-for-2 from the line to bring Nicholls to within four at 52-48 before Babin nailed a three to make it 52-51 with 1:39 left.

The Colonel defense came up with four straight stops on ULM posessions to keep the Warhawks off the board in the final four minutes.  With 11 seconds left, the Warhawks missed a three-pointer.  The ensuing rebound went out of bounds, giving Nicholls the basketball with nine seconds left.

After Nicholls called timeout to draw up the final play, Bickham pushed the ball up the floor before finding Allen on the left baseline who connected through traffic to cap the comeback and put Nicholls up 53-52.  A desperation three by ULM  from 70 feet at the buzzer missed to give the Colonels the win.

Nicholls forced 27 turnovers and recorded 14 steals against the Warhawks, limiting ULM to 36.7 percent shooting (22-for-60).

The Colonels will return to action on Nov. 20 when Nicholls visits Ole Miss to open a three-game road trip.  Nicholls will return home to host LSU on Nov. 30 in the Tigers first ever trip to Thibodaux.
