Box Score and Play-by-Play
STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Four different Colonels scored in double figures, led by freshman guard
KK Babin's game-high 21, but it wasn't enough for the Nicholls State University women's basketball team (2-2) as the Stony Brook Seawolves (2-2) prevailed in an 81-77 shootout on Wednesday.
Both teams shot over 40.0 percent in the game, but after the Colonels took a 38-34 lead into the lockerroom at the half, Stony Brook shot 48.1 percent (13-for-27) from the field in the second half to rally past Nicholls for the win.
Four days after draining ten three-pointers at Ole Miss, the Colonels once again got hot from behind the arc. Nicholls drained 11 three-pointers, just one shy of the school record of 12 set against UL-Lafayette in 1995. Babin was 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and shot 8-for-13 from the floor to lead all scorers with 21 points. Babin also led the Colonels defensively, recording a team-high four steals.
Senior guard
Ricshanda Bickham added 17 points and had three treys of her own. Meanwhile, freshman forward
LiAnn McCarthy added 13 points on 4-for-7 shooting (including sinking her only three point attempt), and freshman guard
Kya DeGarmo connected on both of her three-point attempts while going 4-for-7 from the field for 11 points.
However, Stony Brook's depth proved critical as the Seawolves' bench outscored the Colonels 31-13. Stony Brook connected on just 4-of-13 three-point attempts, but the Seawolves took advantage of 34 free throw attempts, sinking 27 to help keep in front of the Colonels the rest of the way.
