Colonels Open Home Schedule, Host Tulane for First Time in 19 Seasons

Game Notes

THIBODAUX -
The Nicholls State University men's basketball team (2-2) will look for it's first ever win over Tulane (3-1) when the Colonels open the home portion of the 2010-11 schedule by hosting the Green Wave in Stopher Gym for the first time in 19 seasons on Friday at 4 p.m.

The Colonels, who are 0-18 all-time against the Green Wave, will host Tulane for the first time since losing to the Green Wave 72-64 on Nov. 25, 1991, the opener to the 1991-92 season.

Nicholls will be looking to rebound from a 76-56 loss at Oklahoma State in their previous outing on Nov. 21.  The Colonels will look to regain the form that saw Nicholls pick up their first ever win over LSU on Nov. 16 and take Houston down to the wire on Nov. 12.

The Colonels upset LSU 63-52 in Baton Rouge to snap the Tigers' 82-game home court winning streak against in-state competition after falling to defending Conference USA Tournament champion Houston 63-62 in overtime.

However, the Colonels will have their hands full with a Green Wave team that is off to a 3-1 start.  Tulane features three scorers averaging double-digit point production, lead by Kris Richard's 18.3 point/game average.  Kendall Timmons (14.8 ppg) and Jordan Callahan (13.5 ppg) join Richard as major scoring threats that have led the Green Wave to wins over Maryland-Eastern Shore, Centenary and Maryville (Mo.) and a hard-fought loss at national power Georgetown on Nov. 15.

The Colonels will try to shut down the Green Wave attack with a defense that has forced 59 turnovers through the first three games for a 19.7 turnover per game average.  Nicholls has commited just 40 turnovers of their own while recording 29 steals for a 0.73 steal/turnover ration, the 34th best mark in the country.  Seven different Colonels have recorded at least three steals, led by junior forward Fred Hunter's seven.

Offensively, senior guard/forward Anatoly Bose continues to be one of the most reliable scoring threats in the nation.  The Sydney, Australia native currently ranks second in the nation with a 29.0 point/game scoring average.  Bose, who has recorded at least 22 points in each of his last six games dating back to last season, trails only UCONN's Kemba Walker who is averaging 30.0 ppg through five games to lead the nation.

Tipoff between the Colonels and Green Wave is set for 4 p.m. on Friday.  Originally scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tip, the start time was moved up to accommodate fans in the Thibodaux area who wish to also attend the Louisiana Class 3A High School Football semifinals at E.D. White High School later that night.

Links to live stats and streaming audio will be made available on the day of the game.  The game will be broadcast in the New Orleans-Houma-Thibodaux area on KLRZ 100.3 FM based out of LaRose, La.

The contest with the Green Wave opens a three-game homestand for Nicholls.  The Colonels will host Southern-New Orleans on Monday before concluding their homestand by taking on Loyola-New Orleans at the Houma-Terrebone Civic Center in Houma, La. on Dec. 8.
