Colonels Prepare to Host National Power LSU

THIBODAUX - The Nicholls State University women's basketball team (2-3) take on their second straight national power when the Colonels host LSU for the first time in school history on Tuesday night.  After wrapping up a three-game road trip, Nicholls will take on the Tigers in Stopher Gym with tipoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Colonels will try to return to the form that saw them get off to the first 2-0 start in eight years when they host the Tigers on Tuesday.  Nicholls opened the season with victories over Southern-New Orleans and Louisiana-Monroe at home before dropping three consecutive close losses on the road in their first road trip of the season.

On Nov. 20, Nicholls fell to Ole Miss 64-60 in a game that wasn't decided until the final 30 seconds.  The Colonels then took America East power Stony Brook down the wire before falling 81-77 in a shootout with the Seawolves.

The Colonels then took on a nationally ranked St. John's squad.  Nicholls played the No. 22/24 ranked Red Storm to within seven at the break before St. John's pulled away in the final ten minutes.

Meanwhile,  LSU enters the matchup with the Colonels having opened the season with a 4-4 record through its first eight games.  The Tigers have won three of their last five to put themselves back among the best women's progams in the country.  LSU has received two votes in the latest AP Top 25 ranking, but the Tigers will be looking to rebound after falling at consensus No. 1 program UCONN that gave the Huskies their 84th consecutive victory.

The Tigers feature an offensive attack that boasts a pair of double digit scoring threats.  Adrienne Webb leads LSU with a 14.6 point/game scoring average.  Meanwhile, LaSondra Barrett adds an average of 10.6 points per night to the Tiger attack.  On the defensive side of the ball, an aggressive LSU lineup has already forced 118 turnovers in just eight games.

The Colonels will look to counter with a lineup that features four players averaging double digits in scoring.  Nicholls is led by freshman guard KK Babin who has averaged 16.4 points/game in her first five collegiate contets.  Senior guard Ricshanda Bickham (15.4 ppg), sophomore forward Alisha Allen (13.2 ppg) and freshman LiAnn McCarthy (10.2 ppg) join Babin as consistent double digit point producers.

The Nicholls balanced attack has featured multiple double-digit scorers in all five games thus far, including three contests with four Colonels turning in double digit point production.

Tuesday night's match up will also feature Nicholls head coach DoBee Plaisance facing off her daughter, true freshman LSU forward, former Vandebilt Catholic High School standout and former McDonald's High School All-American Theresa Plaisance.

Tipoff between the Colonels and Tigers is set for 6:30 p.m. in Stophery Gym.  Links to live stats and streaming audio will be made available at www.geauxcolonels.com on the day of the game and special broadcast will be made available in the New Orleans-Houma-Thibodaux area on KLRZ 100.3 FM based out LaRose.
