Nicholls Falls to National Power LSU in Return Home

Box Score and Play-by-Play

THIBODAUX -
The LSU Tigers (5-4) showed the form that made them a Sweet 16 qualifier last season as the Nicholls State University women's basketball team (2-4) fell to the Tigers 88-52 on Monday night in Colonels' return to Stopher Gym following a three-game road trip.

Nicholls just concluded a three-game road trip with hard-fought losses to Ole Miss, Stony Brook and No. 22/24 St. John's.  However, it was the Tigers (who just became consensus No. 1 UCONN's latest victim in a string of 84 consecutive victories) who would rebound from a dissapointing road loss on Monday night.

LSU benefitted from depth and athleticism, sending 13 players on the floor, with all but two putting their names into the scoring column.  Shanece McKinney led all scorers with 15 points and was joined by LaSondra Barrett (13 points), Adrienne Webb (10 points) and Jeanne Kenney (10 points) in giving LSU four double-digit scorers.

Nicholls kept it close in the early going.  LSU struck first, but the Colonels battled back to tie the game at 10-10  at the 12:36 mark.  However, the Tigers soon began showing the form that has made them one of the most respected programs in the country.  LSU closed the half with a  30-6 run to take a 40-16 run.

The second half saw more of the same as the Tigers continued to extend their lead.  LSU shot 61.8 percent from the field while limiting Nicholls to a 20.0 percent shooting percentage in the second half, en route to the 88-35 win.

The Colonels were led by true freshman guard KK Babin's nine points.  The Gonzales, La. native also led the Nicholls defense with seven rebounds and three steals.

Nicholls will return to action this Saturday, Dec. 4 as the Colonels host Grambling at 3:30 p.m. in Stophre Gym.  Links to live stats will be made available on the women's basketball schedule portion of the Nicholls' athletics department's official website, www.geauxcolonels.com, on the day of the game.
