Colonels Look to Snap Skid Against Grambling

THIBODAUX - The Nicholls State University women's basketball team (2-4) will look to snap a four-game losing skid when the Colonels host Grambling (3-4) on Saturday in Stopher Gym.

Nicholls opened the season by getting off to its first 2-0 start in eight seasons as victories over Southern-New Orleans on Nov. 12 and Louisiana-Monroe on Nov. 16 as the Colonels opened the season with consecutive victories for the first time since the 2002-03 campaign.

However, the Colonels suffered a pair of heart breaking road losses at Ole Miss (Nov. 20) and Stony Brook (Nov. 22) before falling to national powers No. 22/24 St. John's (Nov. 26) and LSU (Nov. 30) all in the space of ten days.

Meanwhile, Nicholls will have its hands full against a Grambling squad that enters Saturday's match up riding a three-game winning streak.  The Tigers, who opened the year with four consecutive losses, have rattled off three straight wins over Dillard, Xavier-New Orleans and at ULM.  Saturday's game marks the eighth of a nine-game season-opening road trip for the Tigers.

The Colonels will hope a potent offensive attack will help them past the Tigers and end their four-game skid.  Nicholls feautres four players averaging double-digit point production, led by freshman guard KK Babin.  The Gonzales, La. native leads the team, and is ranked sixth in the Southland Conference with a 15.2 point/game scoring average.  Joining Babin among the conference's top ten scorers is senior guard Ricshanda Bickham, whose 14.2 point/game average ranks eighth in the league.

The Nicholls front court is led by sophomore forward Alisha Allen (12.0 ppg) and true freshman forward LiAnn McCarthy (10.0 ppg).

Tipoff between the Colonels and Tigers is set for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.  Links to live stats will be made available on the women's basketball schedule page of www.geauxcolonels.com.  Following the contest, the Colonels will hit the road to take on North Texas on Dec. 13 before returning to Thibodaux to conclude the home portion of the non-conference schedule with games against Bethune-Cookman (Dec. 15) and Geaorgia State (Dec. 18).
