CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday afternoon, ending its season in the Southland Conference Tournament.

The Colonels (14-6) lost the doubles point to start the match as the club fell at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the lineup. Junior Radu Ionescu and senior Vlad Popa had a 7-7 tie at the No. 1 slot against Rodrigo Morgado and Pedro Zanotelli, but with the double point already decided, play was stopped.

The two teams then went on to singles play, and Ionescu posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 1 over UTSA's Tyler Brown. However, the Colonels suffered losses at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to give the Roadrunners the necessary singles wins to claim victory.

Freshman Dmitry Kozionov and Popa's matches were stopped in the third sets due to the match already being decided. Popa was winning his match in the last frame, while Kozionov was trailing.
